25 Weeks today, and Boggle is already so loved!

Above are a couple pics from a progress shoot, by none other than my talented family members: Geoff and Lori!

Not only did Boggle get his/her first photo session free of charge, but we have also been showered with so many lovely gifts! What wonderful friends and family we have. Makes me think I should devote an entire post to some of the unique and special gifts we have already received… A thank you note of sorts: coming soon!

But for now, I will catch up on my not-so-weekly-updates.

Baby P is now 13.5 inches long and weighs in at about 1.5lbs! I am feeling TONS of movement, usually after I eat, or at approximately 1:00 in the morning.  We’ve got another night owl on our hands!!

Geoffrey and my Mom have both been able to feel the movements!  Looks like the Plagemann’s will be next to rub the belly on Thanksgiving…

Keeping the Magic Alive

“Tell me one last thing,” said Harry. “Is this real? Or has this been happening inside my head?”

Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?

After a friend recently shared this link to Dinovember, written by fellow blogger, Refe Tuma:

I couldn’t help but share this fantastic bit of parent-creativity with the rest of the world…

Refe and his wife spend the entire month of November making their children’s dinosaurs come to life at night.  The Dinos seem to be rather destructive: writing on walls, breaking eggs, and holding other toys captive – but to the kids, this makes Dinovember far more realistic and incredible.

One of the closing lines of Refe’s post says this:

“Why do we do this?  Because in the age of iPads and Netflix, we don’t want our kids to lose their sense of wonder and imagination.”

What a great way to keep the magic alive!!

Why is the sky blue?

We dabble.  Geoffrey and I are dabblers.  Some might label us as ‘artist types’… but I hate when anyone calls themselves an ‘artist’. It is so presumptuous, implying that you are actually GOOD at art.  And since ‘good’ has such a wide array of possibilities, I think I will stick to my original statement and say, we are ‘dabblers’.

Yes, we enjoy art, travel, architecture, photography, painting, graphic design, and all of the quirkiness that comes along with those ‘hobbies’.  However we are nowhere near, nor will be ever be, experts at any one of these professions.  So very few are.

In short, I see a future doomed for dabbling! It’s really quite entertaining.  Practice one hobby until you are 5 days short of mastering it, get bored, then move on to the next socially unacceptable career… Kidding.  Kind of.

I love this way of life.  I am always learning something new, always self-critiquing, always challenged, always changing direction, and never bored.  However, because of mine and Geoff’s shared interest in this continuous cycle, I am afraid our baby is doomed to be a super-nerd.

If our baby manages to survive 18+ years in this family, without following directly in our footsteps, I will be thoroughly impressed, and more likely than not, they will have intensely rebelled against our so-called ‘artistic’ lifestyle and will find the true success of a mastered career.

If they DO manage to resist, perhaps they will become the typically wished for: Doctor, Lawyer, or Engineer…or even a truly skilled: Robot Programmer, Keyboardist, or Giraffe Trainer (seriously, I just recently heard of someone who trains giraffes! And gets paid for it!!)

No matter.  They will either:

  1. Be just like us.  Weirdos, who are interested in EVERYTHING, and have a lot of fun doing it.

  1. Hate their childhood SO much that they rebel and find a truly successful, mastered career hiding in the shadows of their awkward youth.

What do you crave?

Since becoming pregnant, I seem to crave all things ORANGE!

It started early with Tang and Buffalo Chicken.  But now I have moved on to much healthier items such as Pub Cheese and Sunkist… And even when I crave something lacking orange pigment, like a chocolate chip cookie, I add an inconspicuous Orange Pumpkin just to keep the theme going…

I may have been brainwashed a few years back…

Happy Halloween, Boggle says “BOO!”

Our baby is in full Halloween mode, sporting ghostly faces on our latest ultrasound, and doing karate kicks in my belly!

In honor of Boggle’s ‘spirited’ celebrations Geoff and I thought that we too would join the Halloween fun!

We did not actually ‘run’ in the 5K, but we did work our tails off.  In fact, the past few weeks have been nothing but: WORK, WORK, WORK for us.  Aside from our ‘real jobs’ we have spent the past month photographing: 3 weddings, several ‘couples/families’, and our biggest event of the year “HallowEast” for our East End Main Street program in Charleston – Including a Murder Mystery Dinner, Art Show, Zombie 5K, and Costume Crawl.  At least we were able to snag a few cute photos of ourselves.

If you are interested, you can check out some of our work here: http://checkerboardstudios.zenfolio.com/halloweast2013

Aside from editing photos, we are now trying to focus our time prepping the house for our new family member while listening to Christmas Carols!   It is starting to hit us that we will be PARENTS in a short 18 WEEKS.  We recently ordered a crib/changer for the baby-room, and will soon be registering for items that we don’t yet know how to use!… Car seats, strollers, diapers, pumps, binkys, and more!  Baby is growing at a rapid pace, and so am I!

And since I am always behind on these…here is our most recent progress:

19 Weeks - Heirloom Tomato

At 22 Weeks Boggle is now 11 inches and almost 1 pound. Lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and he/she’s even developing tiny tooth buds beneath their gums!
